I would consult with the teenager that is staying in the room and make it a fun project that they like.
im not a girl or a tomboy, but i think music is a cool theme, whatever kind of music your into.

A bad theme for an adults room.

blue is good for any bedroom.
sleek, new age designs with bold colors, silver metals (stainless steel), clean lines and such
otherwise you could always go with the sports theme.
Jail cell, with a random shakedown every week to find drugs, porn, and weapons.
well, i always go with whatever season that it is. like right now i have spring. (light pinks, soft grenns, blues, yellows, and oranges!!) got my bedding at walmart for like 50 bucks!! it was a whole set too

when i was a teen i did my room in posters of bands and memories from what people gave me...but if your the mom let her take her own ideas and make them hers....let her do her room...then when she has friends over she can say that she did it and it was all her....i mean ya you can help her do it but let her deside i think she would respect you for that...

It could be techie with all the green and black stuff.. With all the wires and everything!
You could go monochromatic (make sure it's not yellow, I heard somewhere that people who live in yellow rooms go crazy) or you can use a certain picture as inspiration, such as a cover from a favorite album. Also, my room is designed around the beach (minus the cheesy wicker and conch shells), so you could also use a favorite outdoor setting.
Music, sports, nature, or just plain. With some tough edges/colors.
