Why do teenagers drink?

Why do teenagers drink? that is one question that is on my mind and i am a teenager? but i could ask myself the same question every min of every day but i cant come up with the answer to it? why would you want to waste your life and kill your organs? Ya some of the drinks might tast good but then there is some that will knock you on your *** but really why do teenagers drink? Why do teenagers drink?
I think the only reason teens drink is because we make it into such a forbidden fruit for them. During those years, all young adults feel the need to rebel. Can't have it, want it.

I know that (years ago!) when I turned 21, I did not drink as much as I did when I was a teen. It just wasn't as fun anymore. Not that is wasn't fun altogether, it's just that it wasn't such a temptation anymore. You mean, I can have alcohol anytime I want? Where's the fun in that?

That's why I wouldn't have a problem if the legal drinking age, of at least 3.2% drinks, was lowered to 18. Europe, and other countries where drinking ages are lower, do not have the problems with teenage DUI's %26amp; such that we in the States do.Why do teenagers drink?
to fit in--
They are either bored or insecure. Trust me, its not because it tastes good...if they wanted something that tasted good, they would eat some candy!
for an excuse when they get nailed for something
I have a theory on this---check to see if any of your friends that you know that do drink--have the following symptoms in their life.

Do both parents work till late evening hours (10pm)?

Does either parent work 2 jobs?

Does either parent get involved in after school activities with their child?

Are they usually home when their kid gets home from school?

Are their parents intrested in their school, or hobbies?

Do they have a well balanced life?

Does either parent or child tell each other they love each other?

Does the family as a whole, enjoy a weekend of leisure together, doing something they all enjoy?

Do the parents instill in the child a good strong foundation of respect and admiration for one another?

Kids drink, because they are CRYING OUT for attention, and I'm not talking about a 3yo having a tantrum. This is a psychological response to a feeling of abandonment or loss of hope. Kids drink, because they want any type of attention even if it's NEGATIVE--to shake their parents up and be noticed, to be appreciated, to be loved, and cared for like when they were babies.

I do agree that some kids are predisposed to being alcoholics if one or both parents are--basically because you learn from your environment.
because they are thirsty
When a child grows into a teenager, the body matures into that of an adult. But they're still treated like kids. So they want to do ';adult'; things, so their friends will think of them as grown up. Only adults are allowed to buy and drink alcoholic beverages, so this is a symbol for them. That's why they want it. Smoking cigarettes is a similar thing. YOU'RE RIGHT. Both are unhealthy, illogical things to do...the problem is they aren't being logical about it. Their need to seem ';cool'; and adult-like over-rides their reason. Later, if they're lucky, they'll have a true adult perspective on this nonsense. You seem to already have it. Good luck!
Well there are a lot of reasons teenagers drink.

Depression

Stress

To look cool

Because of family history

I think todays teenagers have more stress than people realize and just like adults they feel the need to find a way to resolve that stress.

Good for you for not falling into the loop!
When I was a teenager I asked myself that question before. I never got it. When I turn 20 I dated a guy which I'm engage to and he started to get me dranking. I didn't know what it felt like so I want to try it. When I was a teenage I didn't try it and mostly were afraid something was going to happen to me. Most teenagers do it cause the parents are dranking with them. Most people think it cool untill they get caught. Most people do it cause it helps them relax. When you drank most people who are upset thinks that it changes them and make them happy but it really upsets them more. I'm not a heavy dranker and I only drank on holidays or if I feel like I need a drank. It really doesn't bother me or change me it more like something to drink. I'm now 21 and can drank whenever I want to but I choose not to cause I have a job and when I do drank I make sure I'm not driving home or to work. It just the same as teenagers who smoke or do drugs
Teenagers will do anything that's prohibited, especially if their parents come on too strong. It's just the nature of the maturing process. Most of them will eventually find something else to do. Some others aren't quite so lucky.
I know how you feel. Most of the time teenagers drink to feel. I know that sounds all gooy and girly but the drinking sensation is suppose to loosen you up and it makes people less shy and more willing to do things they normally wouldn;t do if they were sober.

I agree with you that it is stupid to drink and its kiling your organs but sometimes people see the pleasure before they see the pain that alcohol can cause.
girl you are dramatic. drinking in moderation is fun and cool. Being a drunk is wrong. cheers!
to be ';cool';, also to fit in.. social acceptance
Well good for you that you don't. I did when i was a teen b/c it made life more interesting. Made some good memories.
it depends on the family i think and the person. Some do it BC of peerpreasure and some to fit in, but some its just the way they were brought up. In some families its tradition to learn how to drink since young for protection, specially young women.
Out of curiosity and for fun ... and then they wanna show off that they r adults /grown ups... trying to be cool !
to fit it and it is so stuupid

someone tells you drinking makes you smart

and you drink

that is so dumd
rebellion

in america the drinking age is 21, everyone tells you

';you cant drink till you're 21, its illegal'; immediatley you want to break the law.
because teenagers have angst and are pressured to be someone that they're not , inside.
because their assholes

Vin
because they are not using their common sense. i know what you mean because i go through the same thing.
because they wanna get drunk
drink what?

hmmm...because they're thirsty? :)
when i was a teenager i didnt do it.. but i believe that my friends did cause their boyfriends were and because they wanted to be cool and go to parties. the only thing to do at parties was drink. i cant really see the reason behind it. it tastes like poison and it doesnt really have a good after affect. do not drink unless u like doing it and if u are being safe about it. and if u are under age, i think u definitely shouldnt be doing it, u could get in a lot of trouble
