It is a massive problem but what is the answer? The police can do what they can, but it is getting way out of control.Why do some of Londons Black teenagers think its cool to have a gun?

Why is it a concern for you or any other white person for that matter? You may not have actually tarred us all with the same brush in your comments, but your true thoughts are quite clear.
Why should it worry you? Are any white people being gunned down by these black teenagers? In fact we are doing your job for you, we are eliminating ourselves, therefore you should be happy. 1 black youth kills another black youth, and then that black youth gets thrown in jail. KILLING TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE. now you have two black kids off the streets, isn't that what you want?

Your first line highlights how little you know about the situation. FOR YOUR INFORMATION, GUN CRIME IS NOT INCREASING IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY. It is actually decreasing (check statistics for the past 5 years).
The only reason why it has caused such a controversy in the national news is because 3 kids have died. Kids are getting shot every week, but they rarely die from their injuries.
To answer your question, No, Black kids do not think its cool to have a gun. They have guns because they realise that if they dont own a gun they will be taken advantaged of by the drug dealers and gangsters that control the streets. This has nothing to do with rappers. You know nothing about rap except what you read in the tabloids (which are all lies anyway)
The streets do not imitate rap, rap imitates the streets. Please put down the newspapers because they write alot of BS, and do not know the truth about the situation. This may be new to you, but its been like this for years.
I'm 20 and go to college in Westminister and have noticed this sort of thing alot. To me it seems to be down to a sort of gang scene (similar to those of America). And it seems to be the cool thing to do. This also ties in with the 'Grime' music scene (a UK version of american gangsta rap) which most artist's sing and boast about shootings and muggings. Gun crime has always been rife but it seems to me it's getting worse. Still it could be worse, look a Brazil. A very high gun crime rate, children as young as 10 carrying guns.
Still i think it's pretty rediculous.
It would seem that its all to do with image, and conformity with their peers (Monkey Say - Monkey Do).
It goes hand in hand with the tribal or gang thing that is associated with such groups. Until these people evolve out of this kind of attitude they should all be ejected from Society until they learn the meaning of one of their favourite words ';respect';

I didint know that happend in London. I'm the the USA and guns are a problem over all. Its sucks,a nd people get hurt. Young, black, white, and any other race, at least in this country seem to fall in the holes of either circumstance, or a fad.
Because these children, and that is what they are, have not been taught that there is a much better, more enjoyable and rewarding way to live their lives.
The consequence of their actions is that they will either be shot and killed themselves by their enemies, or the forces of law upon their arrest, or they will spend their lives behind lock and key.
These are largely drug related crimes anyway which tells you a great deal about the parents of those who are guilty of these crimes. It just proves that the ability to produce semen without responsibility is also the ability to produce criminals wthout responsibility.
Same as the American ones. Rappers have them so it must be cool. Personally I think it is a way of compensating for a lack of ...well...you know. Power. If the youngster acts like a gun-totine thug, he will be admired and desired by women. They want the high rolling reputation of the rap and/or drug/gang culture to hide their own social weakness. Why get a job when you can steal for a living? Just look at the warlord gangs in africa. Guns guns guns, steal from the starving to look like a big man. There are times I believe that its genetic, but then how can intelligent, responsible blacks beat the genes? It falls to the formative environment I suppose. Parents failed to do something to maintain discipline allowing the thug mentality to surface and run unchecked. If they are so determined to show their toughness and make their bones...bring back the gladiatorial matches and let them shoot it out.

It is definitely increasing. I can only suspect that its drug warfare. Or maybe these kids are being brought up in disruptive violent households. In which case that is another problem altogether. Maybe some families need parenting support, or lesson in how to empower young black men.
Personally I have heard enough to be honest. I am tired of seeing news stories about young black men cutting EACH OTHER down in their prime. I want to know what I can do about it. On Newsnight right now there is a debate about it.
First of all, this is a bias question. You are making generalizations about an entire race. The funny thing about this question is we usually don't see black kids bombing or shooting up schools and killing their parents so they can be in a relationship their parents didn't approve of; can you explain that? The most notorious serial killers are caucasian; that's in the U.K. and America (explain that!). Also, kids in general white, black, asian, latino listen to music and feel that they must emulate the artist they look up to. So no black kids don't think it's cool to carry a gun. Usually the black kids carrying guns live in poverty-violent stricken neighborhoods where if you are not armed with a gun you won't have any other option of protecting yourself (and no sweety calling the police is not a viable option in those neighborhoods). I should post a question and ask why do white people feel the need to conquer every race of people and destroy their culture but along the way rape and dehumanize, the people they conquer (dumb huh). Don't make generalizations!

Why do you use the word Black so much it is not just black teenagers it is all yout's who fink i' is cool 2b seen wiv a gun just like their heroes who do not help anything they just rap about the US streets which are different to ours due mainly to the gun laws.

The Black youths of the UK have no particular influence on their lives, other than what comes out of america. This would explain the way they dress in american basket ball clothing etc.
Having a gun is part of the american gangster culture that they identify with and so going out and ';wasting'; someone is all part of the image.
It is a failure of the Goverments education programme that these kids are idenifying with the wrong culture. Cultural heritage is no longer considered to be PC and so it is neglected and the kids grow up with what they think is cool, not with what is right for them and the communities they live in.
Gun culture is going to increase in the next decade whether Blair and Brown will heed the warnings now is anyones guess.
I think the same, it is very dangerous and sad to see black kids having a gun just to be like black rappers. if in my life I should have the possibility to keep a gun it will be only to protect my self.
It is not just black kids with guns! I am black and I do not have a gun. I know a lot of black kids who don't have a gun. Plus I know a lot of white people who have them and have killed kids while they were in school.
I know, all these stories about the shootings in peckham are terrible. But just look at the people who commited the crimes, they are absolute fools. They havent got a clue. What ken livingstone needs to do is get some programmes together to get these kids off the street.
