Why do teenagers think that thier popularity determines who they are?? ?

Thats really shallow and stupid. popularity doesnt make you who you are, in my opinion it weakens who you are, because you have to make a lot of sacrifices, pretend to be someone your not, and ALWAYS have a new fresh outfit for the next day. Its unnecessary stress, for an unncessary label. Why do teenagers think that thier popularity determines who they are?? ?
I dont know i personally struggle with this. I have been trying so hard since freshman year to become as popular as can be and try to get the girls. I am tottally in this boat and pretty much just wrote a question about this 5 seconds ago. You should answer it. So any advice would be great. Why do teenagers think that thier popularity determines who they are?? ?
i know you think that is just high shool, but for some it never stops. There are always that group at work, there are always that group where every you go. It'sawfull though, because I tried, didn'tt succeed to be popularity, but only now am I finding out who I want to be, when I might have known that a while back. I dont think it's because teens are stupid, I think that when people are insecure that look to others to be sufficientt people.
Basically if you dont dress cool, drink alchohol, smoke weed (maybe), have some common sence, have a sence of humor, have sex, have lots of friends and talk cool then your at the bottom of the cool list.

And not many people are there and its not COOL to be there.

Im not there but im pretty close becuase i havent done the following: smoked weed, had sex. But im not planning on doing either one right now so im good where i am and i just think thats stupid and people should be who they are not what others what em to be. ;)

I think you are right. After high school you will learn that the sacrifices you made for popularity have cost you a major price. That being finding out who you are. I think that there is nothing more important that sourcing your self esteem from something inside and not based on anyone else. We grow into ourselves over time and it all gets easier.
well i agree and disagree.I'm 16 and have no friends so i can say it's important to have one. but i think your making a stereotypically and broad generalization. but on the other side yeah sadly that is how a lot of (girls in particular) act. i guess it's because of society (movies like mean girls or any other movie involving teens really)
Because school is their universe, and popularity gives them power within that universe.

And teenagers are less mature than adults, so you can't judge them with an adult mind. (There is a reason why one is not tried as an adult until the age of 18.)
unless...your popular for being who you are...i was pretty popular in highschool and it wasnt for being anyone im not...i was still the sarcastic, adorable yet bitchy girl i always was...i see what you mean though, i never think its ok to be fake because people can always tell when someone is being fake and they dont respect them as much...
i completely agree with you 100 percent.

like, u see 5th grades dressing like sluts because they see older girls doing it and they think its kool...which is not a good role model.

and people should like you for ur personality not for your looks or who u hang out with
they are stupid. but that's how people are when they are around that age. they have no idea that people dont really care who they are. its just for their own satisfaction which in my opinion is a bad way to win attention.
i agree with you it's stupid im 14 and i know this stuff. Why have the spot light on you? Yay mess up one time and then your the joke.
especially when they try to be someone that their not, they end up being involved with people that they shouldn't be with !!! i agree with everything you said !!!
Teenagers are very immature and self absorbed.
I agree
that's the way our society is
