How can older teenagers say NO to start smoking? I have no idea and I really would like to know how they can say no to pressures.How can older children and teenagers say “NO” to the pressure to start smoking?
The main thing is to BE ASSERTIVE. Don't give in or back down. Stick with your answer and stand strong. Usually state a reason or two why you don't want to do it. Example: ';No! I do not want to smoke! Smoking can cause lung cancer and cigarettes are filled with bad chemicals';.How can older children and teenagers say “NO” to the pressure to start smoking?
I think just by understanding scientifically what is happening when you smoke and the cons of it should be enough. Do you ever wonder why packs of cigarettes don't have an ingredient list like every other product you can find on the market? Here is a list of ingredients found in smokes.
1. Tobacco
2. Paper
3. Ammonium Hydroxide (essentially ammonia in water)
4. Phenyl Methyl Ketone (Acetophenone) C6,H5,COCH3 is a major component of tear gas.
5. Castoreum - From the secretions of a beavers castor glands. 8 pounds of the stuff goes into 400 billion cigarettes
6. 2-Acetyl 3-Ethylpyrazine Provides an ';earthy depth of flavor';
7. Copaiba Oil - non toxic accelerant used to counter act the dampening effect from #1 above.
Gamma Heptalactone - This compound is a mild inhibitor that slows down the process in which your body breaks down nicotine in the blood stream. By slowing this process down they keep the precious nicotine in your body for longer.
8. Sugar - Burning sugar releases acetaldehyde (as does fermenting alcohol), which has a narcotic effect. It's also a positive reinforcer when combined with nicotine - each amplifies the others effect on your brain and you'll likely want to keep smoking.
9. Levulinic Acid - This substance desensitizes the upper respiratory tract, creating a perception of smoothness or mildness. Also enhances the binding of nicotine to the appropriate receptors in your brain, giving you more bang with each puff.
When people ask just say something like ';nahh, I appreciate the offer though';
I work overnights at a high end hotel that caters to mostly rich people, they offer me cocaine all the time, that's what I usually say when I decline and none of them take it as disrespectful.
Well my teacher in school told us that when we are tempted, our lives will be tormented. A cigarette has chemicals found in tar, smoke, even muriatic acid.
She said one cigarette butt can shorten one's lifespan by five minutes.
If you do treasure your life, don't do it.
well im 13,i have been offered already.it may be tempting to try smoking.
but i said no and i told the kids's parents who ere smoking..ha
they got in trouble.
i say no because i know that smoking is very bad for you.
and it shortens life =]
You just say no. That's all you say. No. Simple. No.
As long as you say no, that's it.
I'm not going to smoke/have sex/do drugs/drink dammit. No.
girls will tend to say ';GROSS'; and act very offended. boys play it cool and say ';no thanks man, im good';. its important for them not to come across as a geek, so they tend to say things like that.
